  1. “Hanging pocket organizers.” Is that what shoe bags are being called these days? Got to admit, they’re very versatile. As this article shows, they’re great for storing all kinds of small things.

  2. I just can’t believe you stole my idea! I came across one of these “shoe bags” at a yard sale in Florida for spare change and put it to use for all those cords. I left it behind when I moved west. I found my current clear one at Homegoods/Marshalls/TJ Maxx. I threw out the unsightly over the door hooks and nailed it inside of the HVAC door where there’s only room for something like this. I call it my “junk drawer.” It corrals my cords, tape, and all those things that would be lost in some kitchen drawer in my one bedroom apartment.

Oh, if you have a label-maker, you can label each compartment rather than clipping on a card. (One compartment holds my binder clips)!

Jillee, although I can’t use all of your “good things,” I learn something good from you all the time. Keep up the good work.

  3. I showed this idea to my Mom right after I saw this. She wants to give the organizers to some of the kids for Christmas with the print out of ideas.

  4. When my daughters were babies I used one to store daily outfits in. Top layer was socks, then onesies. Folded outfits and had one in each pocket with the next size up in the lower pockets. Shoes in bottom pockets. Was a life saver and was easy to find the entire outfit. I didnโ€™t have baby clothes go to waste by them outgrowing them before they could wear them. Also out baby lotion and nursery items in pockets for easy diaper changes and after bath care.

  5. The over the door shoe bag was a life safer for us on a cruise. Not much space in a cruise ship’s bathroom. I hung one on the bathroom door and it help all are needs for the cruise. And since they are so light, it does not add much weight or take room in the suitcase. If you don’t want to bring it back, toss it!

    • What an excellent idea! We go on vacation and it seems like every single flat surface is covered within 10 minutes of our arrival! I’m definitely going to be getting at least one of these show organizers for that purpose alone. Ms. McKibban, you’re a genius and a credit to travelers everywhere, thank you for sharing!!

  6. Take one with you on a cruise or anywhere you might stay with limited storage/counter space. Invaluable!

  7. My fav use is inside the coat closet – nothing better to slip your winter gloves, scarves and hats in, especially if it’s the see-through type.
I have a heavier one that I used for shoes, but other than sandals you can’t get too many pair of shoes in them. It is a nice way to store shoes that you use frequently (unless you like a big basket which is my current favorite).

  8. One use I saw recently for these over the door holders was for an Advent Calendar! It was brilliant~ especially if you have more than one child or want to include larger gifts for each day.

  14. Love your website. This is a tip for cleaning the soleplate of an iron. During a recent sewing/craft project I got a lot of the tacky stuff from fusible interfacing on the entire soleplate of my iron. It was near the end of the project, so I just turned off the iron and let it cool. (It is shiny metal, probably stainless steel). I decided to use my glass cooktop cleaner to see if it would clean it–worked like a charm. I just put a dab on a folded paper towel and rubbed in a small circular motion, adding another dab as I moved to another area. I didn’t press super hard as I didn’t know if it would scratch or not (didn’t notice any) and I sure didn’t want to get any into the steam holes. Finish off with a clean paper towel.
I use Wright’s Cooktop Cleaner, which I like better than Weiman’s, even though it is made by Weiman’s. Im sure any brand would work. If you don’t have any on hand, ask a friend or neighbor if she’ll give you a teaspoon or two of hers. Offer to clean her iron for her, too. Only takes a minute or two.

  16. The back of the door is one of the most commonly overlooked storage areas. I like these clear ones because you can easily see what is in each pocket!

      • Wanda, try using a couple command hooks, like these: http://amzn.to/2AuPOaa

  17. Use command hooks to hang. That way door still closes and doesn’t scrape the paint off.

  21. Great ideas.. I like the one for the electronic cords. Iโ€™ve almost tripped and fallen a few times. I also have a fancy over the door jewelry organizer. My folks gave me one a few years ago. It makes it much easier to find things when you can see things. Mine hangs over my bedroom door. They also a year later gave one of my Sisters an identical one.

  22. I am an artist and you have just given me a great idea on how to have the colors (paint tubes) that I use most often in sight when I begin a project. That way I am not hunting through my bin looking for them. I will also know when I am running low and need to replace. I start my day, every day reading your emails and I have gotten so much good information. Thank you, Jill
